Star Wars: Sister, The Transgender Clone Wars Hero, Explained

Star Wars: Sister, The Transgender Clone Wars Hero, Explained

Sister is a special and groundbreaking character in the Star Wars universe. She is the first transgender clone trooper in Star Wars history. In the Star Wars world, clones are made to be the same, all created from the DNA of Jango Fett. But the Star Wars stories have also shown how some clones are different. For example, the show Star Wars: The Bad Batch featured mutated clones who were unique, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars showed clones like Cut Lawquane, who lived their own lives.

Sister stands out as a clone who is different from the rest. She first appeared in the book Queen’s Hope by E.K. Johnston, becoming the first transgender clone in Star Wars. Her character is important in the Star Wars story, and recently, an official image of Sister was released, showing how much she means to the Star Wars universe.

Who Is Sister, Star Wars' Transgender Clone?

Sister is a transgender clone trooper who fought in the Clone Wars. She met Anakin Skywalker early in the war. Anakin noticed that the other clones accepted Sister’s identity and called her by her chosen name, “Sister.” She was part of the 7th Sky Corps, working on missions with Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Sister was nervous about how the Jedi would react to her being transgender. But Anakin responded kindly and joked, saying, “The Jedi are all about going beyond things. I don’t think we can complain if you’ve gone beyond gender.”

Were There Other Transgender Clones?

A question many fans might ask is whether Sister was the only transgender clone. Clones were made to be the same, with their individuality controlled by inhibitor chips. However, many clones fought against this and found their own identities. One way they showed their uniqueness was by giving themselves names instead of using their official numbers.

Since Anakin met Sister early in the Clone Wars, she was probably one of the first clones. Although we don’t know how many generations of clones exist in Star Wars, Sister shows that there could be other transgender clones. Still, Captain Rex, in The Secrets of the Clone Troopers by Marc Sumerak, only mentioned Sister, which suggests that transgender clones were rare, and she might have been the only one Rex knew.
Sister’s story is a strong example of individuality and being unique in the Star Wars world. It shows that even clones, who were created to be the same, can embrace who they are and be different.
