It's a pity that Reito Nagata burst into laughter before the "Sniper Essence" series debuted. After your 11th visit you will be able to attend meetings. There is no doubt what we need, Zhuo Zhongyan's illusion of power in his first and second battles? As things stand, however, the series' leader remains a source of personal insecurity, frustration, and frustration.
In 2024, I'm here again, crushing Nazis in Sniper Elite: Resistance. Sniper Elite 6, the latest entry in developer Rebellion’s ultra-violent third-person shooter series, will launch on January 30, 2025. This is another World War II adventure game that turns the enemy lines into a bloody and immersive simulation driven by stealth. During my first hands-on demo, I was tasked with performing some very familiar moves. While this might be criticized in another series, I can't say that taking down Nazis in the most brutal way still doesn't have the morbid charm I need right now.
In my demo, I was thrown into a basic infiltration mission. Carrying three guns and lugging some healing items, I needed to sneak into a city and head toward a building in the center of the city. It's a long journey, taking me through winding city streets and many optional buildings that I can explore in search of guns, intel, and collectibles. How I get there is up to me - just like how I decide to deal with any Nazis in my path.
As I take control of a deadly sniper, I quickly remember that if I make a mistake, the enemy army can easily tear me apart. In the first part of the level, I was thrown into a small grassy field where I could hide. When I was learning computer controls, after failing a stealth kill, I was suddenly surrounded by soldiers who tore me to pieces. . Every time I tried to alert an enemy, I was met with an endless wave of Nazis who would come after me from any location on the open map. Once, I hid in a small room and tried to machine-gun them as they came in. I piled up a pile of bodies, but it became clear that brute force alone wasn't enough.
The joy of a great Sniper Elite mission is that you learn more with each try. Instead of following the same path through the city every time, I changed my route as much as possible after each restart. At one point, I sneaked into a building on the west side of town and found a silent sniper waiting for me. Elsewhere, I found a zipline that allowed me to get closer to the city’s central bridge without having to cross the surrounding area where soldiers were infested and patrol cars hovered. While I didn't actually complete the mission during my playthrough, I eventually found a reliable route that got me to my location quickly while leaving only a body or two behind.
Taking inspiration from some of the best stealth games, Sniper Elite: Resistance does seem to tighten up the stealth mechanics to make this type of gameplay more viable. The missions I attempted had no shortage of ways to distract the guards, from sabotaging generators to cutting power to spotlights (as long as I could find some bolt cutters in the area). Every time I reach the bridge completely undetected, I feel like a ghost in the night.
Of course, this is a violent series, and Sniper Elite: Resistance is no exception. The key is its signature kill cam, which switches to an X-ray view when I perform a key kill. As I was sneaking up on a Nazi and quietly killing him with a knife, I suddenly saw the blade piercing his organs. In my best moment, I used my sniper to target an opponent on a distant rooftop. I fired, and everything went into slow motion as the bullet flew from my barrel toward his eye socket. It's weird, but I can't say it's not satisfying.
I'm not sure anything in Sniper Elite 5 feels fresh. If anything, I was reminded of the Hitman trilogy. Three of the games are nearly identical, just offering players more creative levels. It's the same story here; I'm just enjoying another well-designed Sniper Elite mission. Maybe there will be more surprises waiting in the final version, but I imagine Resistance will mostly serve as a popular wartime playground for players who just want to kill more Nazis in the safety of a digital space.
